School Rules & Guidelines

The Nareg Armenian School Board of Education is committed to providing a safe and orderly school environment where students may receive Armenian language, history and cultural educational opportunities. The Board supports a learning community where teachers deliver quality education while nurturing each student’s unique potential.

ATTENDANCE
Nareg School is in session Saturdays from 9:30 am until 1:30 pm. Parents should report any student tardiness and absences if they know in advance. Students should arrange for making up missed assignments. If a student will be picked up by someone other than the parents listed in the student’s registration forms, the school requires written notification by the start of the school day, unless unforeseen circumstances occur.

BACKPACKS
Students should have a backpack or school bag designated for Nareg School. Students should bring their textbooks, workbooks, notebooks and a filled pencil case every week. Teachers will inform students of any additional supplies they require. Students should not bring any valuables to school. Cell phone usage is not permitted during school hours unless students need to contact parents. Teachers will detain any distracting items and hand them to the student’s parents at dismissal.

EMERGENCY CLOSING
In the event of school closing for inclement weather, or other reason, the school will contact parents by telephone, text and/or email.

HEALTH
Each student will have an immunization chart on file, as well as any health information provided by the parents. If a child becomes ill or injured during school hours, every effort will be made to notify the parents immediately. Please do not send children to school if they are not feeling well Saturday morning, or if they had a fever within the last 24 hours. Please be certain to update any emergency contact information if it changes.

HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned every week and is essential for bridging the learning from week to week. Homework serves to reinforce the skills introduced in class. Students and parents may contact their teachers with questions regarding assignments throughout the week, and for any missed assignments.

LUNCH AND RECESS
Students have a lunch and recess period for 45 minutes. Lunch is provided free of charge for students and the lunch menu will be sent to parents before the beginning of every month. Please inform the school of any food allergies. Students may bring their own lunches from home if they prefer. During recess students will participate in structured games in the gymnasium. Lunch and recess times are staggered for the younger and older student groups.

REPORT CARDS and PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parents receive their children’s Report Cards in February and June, following midterm and final exams during Parent/Teacher conferences. Parents are encouraged to discuss their children’s progress with their teachers throughout the school year.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR
Students are expected to behave in a responsible, respectable and orderly manner with adults and children in the school. Teachers will discuss any inappropriate behavior with students, and contact parents if the behavior persists.

UNIFORMS
Students should arrive at school neatly dressed in the school uniform shirt with dark blue skirt or pants, with dark-colored shoes.
